A Thursday at Camp

Context for this post: Am currently at training camp with my cross country team in Mammoth Lakes, CA (a.k.a., my single favorite place in the world– said with no exaggeration). Some quick thoughts to round out the day are below.

Good things today:

1. A six mile run on the PCT that didn’t result in wrong turns or injuries. (Agnew Meadow down to Devils Postpile. So beautiful I wore my glasses on my run to appreciate the views in the rare moments I wasn’t eying the wobbly path beneath me).

2. Brekky with the boys.

3. A fifteen minute nap that felt like forty.

4. Another creek ice bath. Always a blessing.

5. Looney Bean coffee after our double! (one of my favorite coffee shops ever).

6. Productive study time by the pool in the half shade of Mammoth aspen/pine trees.

7. Stir fry dinner.

8. My paycheck magically landing in my bank account despite not being registered with ADP. Right when I ran out of funds and was just about to ask my mom for money.

9. Ice cream from my teammates.

10. I almost left the group to make a phone call or be alone but instead stayed, and as a result got to have some genuine conversation and also hear some amazing, hilarious, and true stories from Marcus and Jonny. Good times.

All in all, I would say these highs make up for my one low of stepping in mushy dog poop barefoot. Also, the insane soreness in my glutes/hips. If those are the main low of my day and a pretty easily fixable problem, I’ll take it.

Some of these are things that happen on the daily at Mammoth  and some of these are things that don’t happen often. Either way they’re blessings that we oughtn’t to take for granted. Thankful for God’s providence in big ways and small once again.

Definitely looking where I step next time at the park though.
