2019. The year of “Stop talking, Start doing.” That means this is the year I’ll stop simply saying I’ll do things, stop merely meaning to do them, but instead I’ll actually get them DONE.
James 4:17 says, “Anyone who knows the good he ought to do, and doesn’t do it, sins.” God wants us to grow. God wants us to learn. If we resist that with complacency though, it’ll never happen. Which is why I so badly want to start doing. Sure, I’ll probably make some mistakes when I start taking action. But I would much rather regret the stupid things I did than the wonderful opportunities that slipped me by. Because I believe that there are only very few things worse about a person than her potential, if gone untapped.
But tapping into one’s potential requires intentionality. When we enter into adulthood, growth no longer happens by accident. If we want to get better, we have to make goals, and stick to them.
So yes, I do have some New Years resolutions. Maybe I’ll fail on some. But probably at least one of these will reap a great reward! I know it’s risky to post them online because that holds me accountable to actually doing them, but that’s also the very reason I’m going to do it. Here they are below:
1. Read a book a month. (Correction: 12 books this year*. Yes, there’s a difference. ‘Cause I don’t always pace myself consistently, but I can at least average* one book a month).
2. Finish the whole Old Testament. I read the New Testament in 2017. It’s time to finish the whole Bible!
3. Start this blog. (Check!). But here’s the catch: Keep it rolling. Part of doing that is going to be updating this blog with a post every month on how I worked on these goals. You can find those updates on this section of the blog, “Upward Bounds.”
4. Memorize a chapter of the Bible. It is the words on our minds that get impressed on our hearts. If I want my heart to be full of God and overflowing with his love, then I must impress the truths of that love on my mind! I haven’t quite decided on which chapter to memorize yet, but I will have to very, very soon!
So there it all is. I’m taking a deep breath, and I’m doing this. Full send. Let’s go. I’m coming for these goals this year.
2019, I will not let this time that you have set out for me slip me by! Hold on tight, ’cause we’re driving fast and diving in. It’s time to #StopActing, and #StartDoing. Ever better, Every day. #Meliora.
