Hi yes, record stores and coffee shops are actually some of my favorite places to be…
I love record stores and coffee shops. They feel like these very special places that almost certainly have to exist in another dimension, some universal parallel where all is right in this old, aesthetic, classic-hearted (albeit overpriced and packed parallel parking) kind of way. It’s really something unique.
Ironically though, I like record stores not just for their music but more because I like looking at the pictures on the disc sleeves. And I like coffee shops not just for their cappuccinos but more for the scenery of the place. Maybe that means I’m missing the point. But maybe– though this is just what I like to think– I’m unconventional.
Either way, going to places like this makes for a good day, and I’m glad to have been able to do this. Our afternoon adventure took place on 4th street in Long Beach. First, we went to Rose Park Roasters and talked while slowly sipping cappuccinos and drip coffees. Afterward, we drove down half a mile to Retro Row. If you’ve never been, it’s a really cool place to be! It’s packed with hipster thrift stores, vintage shops, and record stores.
Walking around here, I was amazed that I’d never explored this area before today, despite having lived nearby for so many years! We didn’t have enough time to explore everything, so I will definitely be back.
Thanks Julianna for taking us out and introducing us to a new place, and thanks Joanne for bringing a camera and capturing us looking cute! ‘Twas a good afternoon to be in the #LBC. I love this city more and more every time I explore it.
